13.12.24 | Last Day Term 4 and school for 2024 |
Principal News
As we finalise the term, I would like to take the opportunity to wish all the students a restful and safe vacation.
I would like also like to say a huge thank you to staff, students, P&C team and families for a successful term. Our students have all been involved in so many learning opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom including incursion, excursions, community events, competitions and sporting events.
These opportunities provide some of the most memorable days of school life and also create experiences that help students develop and apply positive life skills. I have a strong belief that positive impact on school engagement and maximising academic success.
I would like to thank families and the P&C Team for their support of our school and our wonderful staff who put our students first at all times at times giving up time from their personal lives to make wonderful memories for our students.
I was reminded of the countless opportunities our students are offered during their schooling years at Grand Avene State School in order to achieve our school vision for each student to ‘Grow, Achieve, Succeed.’ This was very evident this fortnight when seeing our students perform through the Evenings of Music, Dance Evening and Graduation Our year 6 student leaders expressed through their speeches how much they have grown and developed confidence under the guidance and encouragement of their teachers and parents over the many years.
We are fortunate to have so many devoted families and staff who make this success and achievement occur for each and every one of our students.
For ease of commencement on the first day back at school, we would invite our families to drop in during the last day of the school holidays Friday 24 January between 9:00am to 9:45am to visit your child/children classroom and meet the teacher.
Our uniform shop will be open for extended periods over the holidays for your convenience. Please check our Schools website https://grandavenuess.eq.edu.au/facilities/uniform-shop for the most up to date opening hours and uniform prices.
This year we are doing all the hard work for you purchasing all stationery and booklist supplies as part of our 2025 School Resource Scheme. Al supplies will be in classrooms for all students at the start of the new year.
A reminder that Teaching and Learning will officially be completed in week 40 (2 December to 6 December 2024).
During week 41, students will be supervised, but not necessary by their current teacher/s. Students will engage in an alternative program of learning. There will be no need for students to bring their own device during this week please keep iPads at home.
To assist us with our planning for week 11, we ask that you please complete the following survey
I am excited for the new year with many more exciting opportunities for our students to continue to grow, succeed and achieve.
Stay safe over the festive season.
Thank you for your cooperation and support of our school.

Celebration Day
Our Year 6 students had an incredible time at their Celebration Day. The day was filled with fun and laughter as they enjoyed activities such as laser tag, our very own Inflatable World and a relaxing movies session complete with popcorn thanks to our P &C. I was delighted to hear that all students enjoyed their last ‘official’ day of their last year in primary school.

Guard of Honour
On Wednesday, our Year 6 students participated in the traditional Guard of Honour, their final walk through of the school. It was a heartfelt moment as they were cheered on by the entire school community. One student described the tradition as ‘something that she will never forget,’ sharing how special it was to walk through the years of her history at Grand Avenue and reconnect with many of her former teachers and teacher aides.
Graduation Ceremony
The Year 6 Graduation Ceremony was held at Nissan Arena on Thursday this week. While I have not had the privilege of being the Deputy Principal of the Year 6 Sector for the entire year, I was deeply honoured to be a part of this memorable occasion. Over the past seven weeks, I have cherished every moment of working with our incredible students and have been in awe of their kindness and maturity.
Congratulations to our graduating Year 6 cohort- we are so proud of you and wish you all the best as you begin your high school journey!
What a Year at Grand Avenue!
What an incredible year we’ve celebrated at Grand Avenue! From sports days to academic awards, chess competitions, student Olympics, volleyball tournaments, and NAIDOC Week celebrations, our calendar has been packed with amazing events and achievements. Not to mention the countless classroom celebrations that have brought joy and pride to our students and staff.
Behind the scenes, our dedicated teachers have worked tirelessly every day to bring out the best in our school community, fostering a love of learning and spirit of togetherness.
As we look ahead 2025, I am excited about continuing this momentum and striving to be the best that we can be.
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season. Take care, and we’ll see you in the new year!

Celebrating Success: Semester 2 Academic Award Ceremonies
As we wrap up another successful semester, we are thrilled to reflect on the outstanding achievements of our students during this week’s Semester 2 Academic Award Ceremonies. These special occasions allowed us to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and passion that our students have demonstrated throughout the semester. From excelling in academics to showing perseverance and growth, it was inspiring to see so many students recognized for their efforts.
The award ceremonies were a testament to the spirit of excellence that our school community continues to foster. It was wonderful to see students proudly receive their awards, knowing that their success is a result of not only their commitment but also the encouragement and support they receive from home.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all parents for their ongoing support of our students. Your involvement and encouragement play a vital role in their success, and we are truly grateful for the partnership we share. Together, we create an environment where students can grow, achieve and succeed to their greatest potential.
Congratulations once again to all the award recipients, and thank you to our parents for being such a crucial part of this journey. We look forward to continuing to celebrate and support our students’ success in the future.
